The first edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL) has attracted the interest of several prominent Indian players. They do, however, have quite high expectations.
All eight teams have received a list of international players who are interested in participating in the NPL from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). These overseas players have sent CAN their preferred fees, and the teams are now bargaining with the players over those sums.
Although CAN has sent the list of foreign players to the teams, it is up to the franchises to decide who to sign and at what cost, according to CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama. For any competition, famous foreign players usually use agents to indicate their availability.
In past competitions, teams have spent 200,000 to 15 Lakh rupees on normal players and 2 to 20 million rupees on top players. Teams are allowed to choose how much to pay international players, and each team is required to have four of them on their squad. It is believed that CAN has given franchises access to a list of about 100 international players.
Those who seek more than $50,000 are categorized as Category A, those who demand more than $25,000 as Category B, and those who demand more than $5,000 as Category C, according on the pricing set by the foreign players. The majority of teams are concentrating on acquiring players from Categories B and C.
The names of Indian players are thought to have been supplied by agents as well. With a demand of 30 million Indian rupees, Suresh Raina and Shikar Dhawan has the highest asking price on the list that CAN provided. He has stated that he is available for the duration of the competition. In contrast, Robin Uthappa has asked for six million Indian rupees in order to participate.
According to a representative of one of the NPL franchise, “some players have indicated their availability for only a few games.”
A sum of two million Indian rupees per match has been quoted by former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. In a similar vein, Ambati Rayudu has called for the availability of 8.5 million Indian rupees for a select few games.
In order to participate in the entire tournament, Kedar Jadhav has requested 10 million Indian rupees, while Mohammad Kaif has quoted 5 million, Amit Mishra 6.5 million, Vinay Kumar 3.5 million, Pragyan Ojha 3 million, RP Singh 3 million, and Pravin Tambe 1.8 million.
