Safe and Surging: Condom Imports Hit Record High in First Five Months of 2080/81

According to the data from the Revenue Department, there has been a notable increase in condom imports in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2080/81. The statistics reveal that from the month of Saun (mid-July) to Mangsir (mid-December), condom imports have exceeded NPR 12 crores.

As per the statistics, during this period, more than 12 million condoms have been imported into Nepal. The data also indicates that a staggering 94 lakh condoms are domestically available. Consequently, the government has collected around NPR 24,000 in taxes during this period, as reported by the Department.

Interestingly, Nepal imports condoms from four specific countries, with the majority coming from India, surpassing 10 crore 94 lakh units. Additionally, there are imports from China, accounting for 22 lakh 40 thousand units, Korea with 52 lakh 42 thousand units, and Malaysia with 33 lakh 49 thousand units.

Comparatively, the previous fiscal year 2079/80 witnessed an import of only 9 crore 28 lakh 58 thousand rupees worth of condoms. According to the data, in the corresponding months of the current fiscal year, there has been an increase in imports by 2 crores 74 lakh rupees.

This surge in condom imports is indicative of a rising demand in the country, and the statistics shed light on evolving trends in the fiscal landscape.
