Share the post "13 Myths Our Moms Made Us Believe Even Though They Were Outright Lies"
In our typical Nepali society, a mother figure, rather than a father figure, is usually the one who holds the responsibility of ‘how’ to raise their children. And, when we think back to our childhood, most of us can recall how our mothers used to tell us great fat lies in order to raise us. We didn’t know whether she was talking the truth or a lie when we were kids. Well, I suppose it’s all part of parenting, where she had to tell us white lies in order to raise us into proper humans.
Anyway, we gathered some of the blatant lies or myths that our mothers ingrained in us, some of which we still believe now. Some may make you smile, while others will make you think, “I can’t believe I bought all of that crap.”
1. “Chapai rako chewing gum nilyo vane andra haru tasinxa.”
Yes, our mother has tricked us all by making us believe this terrible lie. Do you recall the horror of accidentally swallowing gum? My friends, we’ve all been there!
2. “Biya nilyo vane pet ma rukh umranxa.”
Rather than terrifying us, this lie may have made some of us happy, but with some disappointment. Can you recall how we ingested seeds in order to carry fruit-bearing trees around in our stomachs?
3. “Sui le alikati matra ghochxa, testo saro kei dukhdaina.”
Yes, and it’s ironic that we bought that lie. My friend, it wasn’t just a pinch, but a stab in the back from our mother as well as the injection. Our screams can be heard in the depths of our minds.
4. “Rati kucho lagaunu hudaina laxmi janxa.”
Mothers continue to make us believe that the house’s wealth will be swept away, when we sweep the dirt away at night. Is it backed up by science? No, but our lovely mothers make their dumb children believe it.
5. “Ghar bhitra susele bajayo vane bhoot aunxa”
For a long time, this has been one of the horrible lies that has been living rent-free in some of our heads. Consider the possibility of a ghost appearing out of nowhere and giving you a heart attack. Sorry but imagining is simply out of the option.
6. “Book lai khutta le tekyo vane paap lagxa, padna aundaina.”
Even if you accidentally touch the book by your feet, you are still a sinner, my friend! And education is taken away from you to purify your sin. That is how our mother deceived us and turned us into sinners!
7. “Saraswati puja ko din bihanai uthera, nuhayera book puja garyo vane padhna aunxa.”
Remember how during Saraswati puja, we used to get up early, take a bath, and suddenly become religious? All of this was done so that we might have the blessing of knowledge without having to study.
8. “Rati sapana ma paani dekhyo vane paisa aunxa.”
How we wished to grow wealthy while dreaming of water. Regardless, our mother deceived us, and our dreams were crushed, but they never came to an end.
9. “Kasaiko kura garirakhda tyo manxe ai pugyo vane usko ayu lamo hunxa.”
Our mother blatantly lied to us about having long life when you arrive while your name is being called out. Ama, we don’t want long life but happy life!
10. “Ghar ma khursani ra kagati jhundayo vane bhoot pret kei gar bhitra chirdaina.”
Flies, mosquitoes, and many moths are kept out of the house by hanging lemon and chili. We, on the other hand, disagree. Mother successfully persuaded us that it was done to protect us from the ghost’s malicious eye.
11. “Bahira niskeko bela ulto chappal dekhyo vane kei naramro hunxa.”
Remember how we managed the slippers when they were turned inside out, even though they weren’t yours?
12. “Toilet ma basda naak kotayo vane naak ma ghau aunxa.”
So, despite the fact that our noses itched like crazy, we never had the courage to touch them.
13. “Kta manxe le kucho layo vane pahuna aunxa.”
However, we never received any guests or the money they brought with them.
