Balen Sends Garbage Trucks to Maoist and Rastriya Swotantra Party Offices: Explained

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the arrest of garbage truck drivers on Monday afternoon who went on with garbage trucks on Maoist Center headquater.

Balen has decided to confront the issue of recent Bancharedanda protest head-on, warning not to pick up garbage from Singha Darbar, party offices, and the houses of leaders and sending trucks at the party office.

Balen wrote on Facebook, “This government has arrested four drivers who were carrying garbage in Kathmandu, but they could not arrest the corrupt. Until the drivers are released with dignity, the garbage trucks will not be removed from all the party offices.”

Balen had sent garbage trucks to the offices of the Maoist Center and the Rastriya Swotantra Party. This action is related to an incident where local residents obstructed garbage disposal at the Bancharedanda landfill site in Kathmandu Valley.

The Balami Youth Society stopped garbage disposal from Saturday, demanding jobs as per the agreement. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City reported that four vehicles from a private company were damaged during the blockage.

“We requested the police to remove the obstruction of garbage, but they refused, saying there was no order,” Balen stated. “It is clear that politics is being played with garbage. If garbage collection is stopped for 4-5 days, the system will be damaged, so immediate action is needed.”

To protest against this situation, Balen sent four garbage trucks to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s party office in Koteshwar Parisdanda and four to Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane’s party office in Banasthali. The police then arrested four truck drivers.
